Out of nowhere, bottled water started to have pH numbers plastered on every label. We can’t tell if it’s marketing or important, but we can tell you a few things about pH levels.
In dirt.
By the numbers, the recommended pH for soil is 6.58. In Abilene, we have soil that’s what you might call not ideal. We’re almost a point higher at 7.58, and that spells trouble for trees.
And by trouble, we mean tree vitamins. And by vitamins, we mean phosphorus, iron, zinc, and manganese. Without getting too far into the weeds (that was a joke), these essential ingredients simply aren’t there.
And that’s a real problem.
The best seeds, the best transplant, the fanciest irrigation system you can imagine are no match for bad soil. Trees just don’t stand a fighting chance. They don’t make it.
If nutrient-poor soil wasn’t enough to make your Spidey senses tingle, in comes Abilene’s second big problem. Caliche.
This hard, crusted layer of dirt that plagues our soil is made up of excess calcium carbonate. It prevents water from reaching root systems and wreaks havoc on anything that grows.
Between high pH levels and this hard crust, you would think it would be impossible to grow and maintain trees. But we don’t see impossible, we see possible.
Over the years, we’ve developed proven strategies that work despite these problems. You can grow healthy trees that last for generations in Abilene, but you’ll need one thing.
A great plan.
One of the reasons we love trees is that they’re so different from property to property. There’s no such thing as one size fits all when it comes to your trees, and we take that seriously.
Our job is to figure out what works on your trees so you don’t have to. That means making a nutrient, soil, and watering plan that’s designed for you and not some generic plan we hope will work.
The difference between experts and amateurs in this business comes down to one little thing. Results. Lucky for you, we’ve got plenty of those.
Come see why Abilene trusts Leaf It 2 Me Tree Service. With 17 years of experience, there’s no question we can take care of your trees. The real question is why you took so long to call us.
